There will be prizes for first, second, and third place. And, while not a WACOM tablet, these prizes are WONDERFUL. Better than the WACOM if you ask me.

-Dewking
Yes. The minimum size for contest entries should be 500 pixels wide. Height does not matter. If you enter an image that is smaller than 500 pixels Pixel Addiction will automatically enlarge it to the 500 pixel width, thus causing some pixelation of the image in the contest view. For best results always upload images at 500 pixels wide or larger.

Image uploads should remain under 200 kb (although at times that just isn't possible).

Hi and welcome to PA, Dewking! There is a MINIMUM file size for our contests. Your image MUST be at least 500 pixels wide. Otherwise when you upload the image gets stretched to that size. Your image can be larger...in fact it's recommended that you use larger images. We like to keep size in kb down to 200, but there are times (like in our Holiday contest) when that may not be possible. All we ask is that when you save your final image before uploading it, "save for web" so that the image size will be reduced that way. Most of the time images that are "saved for web" end up under 200 kb. The most important thing to remember though is to make your image larger than 500 pixels wide.

Hope this helps!

Question for ya... In the contest rules it says that illustrators are to follow the illustration guidelines and photoshoppers are to be aware of all copywrite rules and guidelines. Does this mean we can't mix the two? For example, if burndog entered his FF picture of the candycane horse, would it risk being disqualified because he painted over the horse (that's considered tracing right?)? In the project I'm working on, using illustrator, I'm using a photo on the background layer and making my vectors on top of it. Is that considered tracing? :) thanks.

Hmmm.. well, If you place a photo in Illustrator then just draw on top of it... that's tracing. And yes, that's unacceptable. Doing the same thing with a sketch you've made is fine. It's a matter of reference and how intensely the reference has been used. It's REAL easy to just trace a photo in Illustrator.. but it's no different than if you did it in Photoshop. Tracing is tracing.

Illustrations must follow the illustration guidelines. Photos must follow the photography guidelines. The difficult part is when does a photograph become a "Photoshop" piece.

Burndog's horse image painted items onto a photograph and is considered a Photoshopped image. Almost all good Photoshop alterations require painting to complete them. His image wasn't meant to be an illustration. it was meant to be an altered Photo.

I see your point. The thing that threw me off was where it says "You may use any media, any medium, and any tool to create your image... ...as long as it's an original image owned by you!" What I was doing was making an image by putting more than one stock photos together and then using illustrator on top of that. It is still making an image of my own but yes it does involving some tracing. :) Its a good thing I havn't finished it. I'll just work on something else. :) Thanks for the clarification.

Sketching from a picture...bla bla, is it so far away from sketching over a picture?
Sketching from a picture...bla bla, is it so far away from sketching over a picture?
Yes...sketching a picture using another image as a source to LOOK at is way different than sketching a picture by TRACING. Definite difference!

Very few professionals draw form nothing. Everyone looks at reference. But, as Silkenfairy posted, looking at reference and tracing are two entirely different things.

lol. I'm thinking it was probably my connection. Pages were loading really slow so maybe it just didn't load everything. No matter though, its all good now. :) I did celebrate last night but nothing crazy. I just sat around at home, played board games, and watched The Bourne Supremecy (great movie btw). :D
