It had to show up here : Matte Painting Contest... (I thought about "by admins delivered architecture picture" in a first time and also as beginner contest cos' no tut. or such past contest here at PA).

Ahhh...I knew that link was familiar. Good ole MR Craig Mullens. He is extremely respected in the world of digital art.

Isn't he something to do with 'Final Fantasy', there's a good part in the making of on the dvd about how they drawed all the backgrounds etc...

Yes, thank you Raphael, but take care: some of his tutorial about Matte Painting Aren't using any brush at all! so it isn't by definition Matte "painting" in contradiction with the first link...

I'm still a bit confused as well, this matte painting thing, is this basically just painting over an image to change it?

and Raphael, great link the end result of the snow scene is spectacular.

Well i have done a bit of checking around... this matte painting would be quite difficult, but would be a lot of fun. Basically matte painting is used in movies where it would be difficult or too expensive to create a set or an environment. I think a contest like this would be a lot of fun, especially if everyone started with the same image.
