There's a list of a few more in this thread... http://www.pixeladdiction.com/bb/showthread.php?t=951?do=markread
Feel free to ask any questions here. We've got a few advanced Illustrator users around.

So.. you didn't purchase the application legally? Did your friend transfer rights to the application to you?

What you have there is an illegal, pirated version of Illustrator. Sorry, PixelAddiction does not support nor condone the pirating of software.
No you do not have everything to make it legal. In order for you to have a legal version your friend must transfer all rights to you and then sign a letter of destruction with Adobe stating that he is no longer using the application (any version of the application with that serial number.) Your friend can not legally simply give you an old version and continue to use a newer version with the same serial number.
When you purchase software you purchase the serial number. That serial number is licensed to the buyer. And the original buyer retains legal right to that serial number unless they specifically take steps to transfer those rights to another individual. Having the actual disk, box and/or manual means nothing. It's rights to the serial number that is required for a legal version.

he isnt using the same serial number...he bought a brand new copy of cs witha new serial..... he uninstalled 10 and gave me the disc/box and serial for it......

Did he buy an upgrade to CS or a full package of CS?
The upgrade comes with a new serial number however will still require the input of the old serial number to install. This again, is still software piracy.

That thread I posted earlier has link to tutorials. To be honest, there aren't a lot of basic Illustrator tutorials around.
In addition, right here at PixelAddiction we have an excerpt from Dave Cross' wonderful book Illustrator CS Killer Tips. Which covers basics of shapes, fills and objects.

There's also a link to illustratorworld.com on the index page.
