Strange error.

I occasionally get an error when I try and save an image I'm working on; Something like "Unable to save 'filename.psd', file has been left open" and have to use Save As.

Any ideas??

On the PC.. I'm not sure what this would mean Trin.

On a Mac it means there's generally a lot of disc fragmentation or yoru disk is getting very full.

Hmm, could be the latter, I assume you mean the save destination and not the scratch space?

sometimes this happens when you look at a picture with some preview program like acdsee or microsoft watch or irfanview and try to save the picture in photoshop at the same time

I've had that kind of thing happen on XP a lot. It's a punk about letting services keep ahold of file threads well beyond when it should. I haven't found any good workaround other than logging out and back in when it gets pissy about it. You could try saving to a different file name and see if that helps. If it doesn't, then you probably have some kind of disk issue, if it does... then it's likely just in use somewhere or was too recently.
If you're on a mac... then it's probably not a problem unless it's actually currently active in another application. Memory threading is better on mac in general on osx and os9 and prior didn't allow for the same kind of memory threading so it's not an issue. ;)
